This is the only digital soil meter on the market. All others utilize a magnetically operated needle, that swings in front of 3-to-5 scales. As a result, the user gets rough estimates instead of actual numbers. It is also one of the few that requires battery power to operate. An electric charge is emitted into the soil and is received in the probe. A circuit board measures the tiny changes and reports the results in digital form. Many competing devices use no batteries. I wonder how their diagnoses work without electricity? I took the meter to task on the first day. The initially readings were off. After a “break in period” of one day, I tested again on the second. The features proved accurate. On the TEMPERATURE feature, I measured room air. The temperature was 1F higher than my oven thermometer and room thermostat. Excellent! To test the PH feature. I wet a face towel with water. It achieved a 7.1 reading – neutral. Water was neutral. Then, I wet a spot on the fabric with vinegar. The reading was 6.0 – slightly acid. Although vinegar was 4% acetic acid in distilled water, I expected a strongly acid reading. So, the PH feature was off by a half notch. The MOISTURE feature worked to perfection. It measured the potted soil at 20% – dry. Examining the dirt, the moisture held the dirt in clumps, but it was relatively dry. The AMBIEN LIGHT feature was good. Three grow lamps shined on my 10 juniper seedlings in pots. Each light source had a 100 watt grow bulb, with a 1700 lux rating. Putting the meter under one, it measured 2640 lux. With the added indirect light from the two other lamps, the reading seemed correct. In the past month, I purchased three other competing soil meters and returned all. They tested grossly inaccurate, or some of their features were inoperative. On this product, the features worked to perfection, except for PH – half correct. A second problem was missing the ability to measure FERTILITY. A third problem was the small text on the screen for TEMPERATURE and MOISTURE readings. They were very small. Other than these three shortcomings, I ranked it the best among the many soil meters available on Amazon.

Accurate moisture readings helped me dial in my irrigation perfectly, fixing over/underwatering issues. The PH meter does not work. It reads between 7 &8 no matter what soil I put it in. I even put it in moistened coffee grounds which are extremely acid. and it still reads between 7&8. Moisture meter and light meter are working fine. But I bought this to test for ph on some very expensive and delicate plants. I have been watering with acid water for two weeks and the soil still reads the same. I’m worried now that I have damaged my plants and have had to flush them all and report some of them.

I have a lot of house plants and have had trouble determining when some of the picky ones needed watering. Couldn’t figure out if they were under or over watered. Decided to get this moisture meter because it was inexpensive. After using it, I discovered I was right about only a few of my plants with regard to their watering needs. The others were being over watered which surprised me. My fussier plants are doing much better since I started using this!

Requires no batteries, the quality is great I got this because of the size, I have a few dip potted plant it works on all of my plants and I have over 30 in my house. It has been very durable easy to use , insert and read the display. Has several moisture levels and not just dry and wet it’s a good read. Very well priced.

I am pleasantly surprised that I use this almost every day to monitor my house plants because I tend to overwater them. This has really helped me to wait a day or two and not tend to give them too much water. I cannot recommend this enough if you are not sure whether to water your plant or not. It is very easy to use. You just stick it in the pot down to where the roots are and read the monitor, which is also fairly easy to read. I don’t have the best vision, but I am able to see it.

This is a must have for people like me who struggle with plant care but love having indoor plants. Easy to read, easy to use, seems to be accurate. I love knowing exactly when to water my plants after killing too many of them. The length is nice even for deeper/tree pots. This is a quality water meter and this was actually my second time buying it. My child lost my first one checking the water outside in the yard somewhere after having it for about two years. It’s apparently that exciting to use. I would buy this again if another is lost because it works so well.

The first Gouevn Soil Moisture Meter was broken because the needle was way off the chart and did not move at all to show the humidity level. The information on how to use the meter was right on the box and was easy to follow. The meter was sturdy and the size appropriate. I returned it with the reason for the return. Almost immediately, I received a new one and this one works.

Prior to my finding these moisture monitors, I can’t begin to count the number of plants that I have killed from either over or under watering. These couldn’t be easier to use. Just stick one in the soil next to your plant and check the color as you pass bye. If it’s blue keep moving. If it’s white get out the watering can. This is especially helpful for succulents, cactus & agave as, I can tell you from lots of sad experience, nothing will kill them quicker than overwatering! Adding to the positives is your ability to insert a replaceable measuring, cartridge after 6-9 months of use. Pop it in and you’re good to go for another 6-9 months of protection. These come in 3 sizes, small, medium & large that allow you to compensate for the depth of your planter. The only con that I have found, and it’s really a very minor one, is that in larger (wider) pots you might want to use additional aquameters to compensate for differing moisture levels around the pot. Summing up – STOP KILLING YOUR PLANTS! – Buy a few of these. Your plants will be glad you did…..

I changed my review from 1 star to 5 star because the error was mine and that’s why 4 out of 5 of them didn’t function. Since then I’ve bought 15 more and will continue to but in the future. These really do work great and I can tell at a glance if my soil is wet, moist or damp depending on how saturated the strip is.
