The spikes are suppose to have a polished finish. The spare ones do but the ones on the grate did not and have some slight rust on them. It also came in a box with no packaging/bubble wrap. Just loose parts thrown into a single Walensee box held together by a piece of Amazon Prime tape where if you gave it a good shake, it would have broken the tape and dumped it on the floor. There was also no Walensee product information or manual that comes with their other products (I’ve bought a couple from other places so I know they are included), luckily its pretty easy to put together. So the product works and is good, but I might advise looking elsewhere for it.”

Customer Review: “This manual lawn aerator has all metal construction. It is made of heavyweight steel and feels very sturdy. There is no flex at all when use it. The spikes are also thick and strong. It gest in and out soil easily, thanks to the strong springs that retract it. It is very simple to assembly. There are only two bolts to install. All the hardware are provided. In fact, three sets of bolts/washers/nuts are provided although only two are needed. These washers are locking washers, and the nuts are self-locking nuts. Therefore, once they are tightened down, they are not going to get loose over time. The handle height is adjustable. There are three pre-drilled hole on it to allow you to choose the right one for your desired height. Due to the metal to metal contact between the handle sections, once it is assembled together, there is some rubbing noise. To solve this, I wrap a piece of tape around the insert section (see picture). There is no more noise. Everything is tight now. The entire tool is pretty lightweight and very portable. This makes it very useful for small lawn. It is so convenient compared to the commercial aerator, which is heavy and hard to operate.”

Customer Review: “Be prepared for a legs workout ! These aerator shoes worked in penetrating my clay soil ,as the spikes are certainly well designed ,in penetrating this heavy clay soil of mine . A few days prior to these aerator being delivered,I had applied Soft Soil with a hose end sprayer .Once the aerator shoes were delivered ,I fitted these shoes to an old pair of work boots .These aerator shoes are a lot easier to fit these boots ,before putting these boots on your feet .Once I put these boots on ,I started walking in rows across my yard and discovered the real effort came ,when I had to extract the spikes from the soil by lifting each foot .The spikes penetrated the soil easily however ,but the extracting the shoes with each step is what led to my getting out of breath a few times .One other hint that helps in using these aerator shoes worked,is that I used these shoes in the early morning hours ,just after daybreak ,when there was a heavy coating of due on the grass .This allowed me to see where I had stepped with these aerator shoes and allowed to step on a few missed spots ,especially as I maneuvered along the edges of some of my flower beds and front walkway .It has been a week since I went over my lawn with these aerator shoes and I especially like the results I am seeing ,especially in a big dry spot ,I.e. a hydrophobic soil spot . This dry spot is now absorbing water ,rather than having the water runoff from this dry spot ,the water is now “ soaking in” to this former dry patch . Note I did use Soft Soil ,in combination with these aerator shoes ,but this combination has led to a vast improvement of this stubborn dry spot in its ability to absorb water .”

Customer Review: “Works good. Easier than I thought they would be to use. I have a size 13 shoe. The straps were just long enough to connect. I did not use a large work type boot. I used a sports type walking shoe. I am heavy enough to push spikes into ground. Dirt will stick onto the bottoms. I used a pole to steady me as I walked and I carried the scraper so as needed I would steady myself on the pole so I could remove the accumulated dirt from between the spikes. The dirt came out fairly easy. The scraper fit between the spikes.”

Customer Review: “i first let viewers knew that i received this product free under the amazon vine programthe aerator came in a few days ago, just perfect for our area. here in oklahoma, the temperature the last few weeks had been in the 70’s during the day with very little rain. sun blazing, wind drying the soil out, my lawn and the the soil beneath the grass brittle and dryed out, rain water just ran off before it could be absorbed.my husband had opened the box when it arrived and thought i had bought him a gift 😇😇; i left him in the belief. so, anyhow, the next day he went outside (mind you he is in his low 70’s) and i found him around 10am marching up and down the lawn with the aerator. i watched him, told him not to over due it, but he replied “this thing is fantastic, its easy to lift, very light weight, and takes no effort at all to put one foot on top and take a step”. i left him to his device, 45 min later, he still had not returned inside, went to check on him again – still out there pushing the aerator in the soil, push, step on it, pull out, repeat – i could not believe after almost an hour he was still at it. told me later, that it was like childs play, the spikes are so slim and set up in a way that does not take a lot of physical effort to push down or to pull them back upbut here comes where i saw the benefit. two days ago we had rain, lots of it at night and early morning, street ran like a creek. normally, most of the water would have just hit the lawn (mine has a slope of about 5feet from street level to the walkway leading to my front door), form little rivers in the dryed out soil and run off with little benefit to my grass. however, that morning when i checked outside, my lawn looked different, at first i couldnt figure out why, than it hit me, the soil looked somewhat loose, crumbly and when i took a little shevel, it was easy to turn the soil, it was spongy. those thousands of little holes my husband had created by using the aerator, had stored the rain water in the soil and had prevented the usual runoff – i was absolutely amazed.summery: the aerator delivered exactly what it promised, it loosened up the soil with minimum effort, the prize is reasonable, the aerator itself is solidly build, not some flimsy contraption you sometimes find in discount stores. according to my elderly husband it is very easy to use and doesnt wear you out. it came almost fully constructed, just minor work putting it together, very pleased with this product and i believe it would be an asset to any homeowner who has a lawn to maintain.”

Customer Review: “Assembly was simple. It’s 2 small bolts and 2 nuts. I didn’t even bother getting my tool set and just used the included tools. It seems well made. The spring action is smooth and powerful enough to assist in pulling the spikes from the ground. Just wiggle it a bit and it comes right out. It’s work though. If you aren’t willing to sweat, you should probably pony up the extra money for a push type aerator. I just finished my yard and found 2 techniques that both work well although one is dangerous. The safer method is to simply step on it, give it a wiggle, pull it out and repeat. The very unsafe method that I personally preferred because I was able to complete the job much quicker is to just drive it into the ground by lifting it up and slamming it down. It was extremely fast and since I have a strong upper body I found it much easier. Just don’t miss or you could spike your foot which would probably not be awesome. Anyway, good product, fair price, no complaints here.”
